Conroe

Friday, May 15, 2020

Arrived in Conroe about 12:30pm had spot picked out and all set up by 1:30.  We got a great spot here.

We had to put the shade up on the front side of the awning.  May be a little red-neckish, but it keeps the porch cool.  Not a constant blowing wind here either so I put up my dragonfly lights!  Yippee!!!

Dennis and I, along with my son, Joe, and his family met at my daughter, Jenna’s, and had a great day with the grandkids. Got to see all except Brycen, he was tent camping with a friend. Jenna put together a Mexican Fiesta and even baked Joe’s favorite cake for him.  Thank you for getting us all in one place.  We all had a good time. I did not take one single picture.  What is wrong with me?

I was expecting bad weather all day.  So, first thing Sunday I got all caught up in my families genealogy.  Spent hours pouring over all this stuff.  Scanning documents and entering information into MyHeritage site. Then I realized it was all done already, so I got a drink and went outside.

Sitting outside Sunday was nice!  We were supposed to have bad weather all weekend, but really only had a bit of rain early this morning.  We had several rabbits come right up to our front yard.  Seems they have no fear, except when a big lose dog came by the one that was still hanging around. It hunkered down and stayed very still until it was out of site.

As dusk set in we saw lightening bugs in the preserve.  First time I have seen them in years. There was a young family walking down the road and the girls were early teens.  They had never seen them before!  I remember catching them and putting them in jars and watching them as a kid!  Such interesting little creatures.

Gorgeous day today.  Got the kayaks unloaded and went down to the lake.  We paddled all the way over to League Line Road from our park.  Which is really far, just so you know.  There is a beautiful Holiday Inn Vacation Club on the way. It looked abandoned.  Maybe this virus is why everything looked closed down.  They had their marina taped off and their boat launch taped off.  We saw no cars at all.  Years ago there was a timeshare there (or near there - hard to say since we were on the water and I did not have my phone), it went bankrupt and I was just sure this was it.  When we got back and looked it up, it appears to be a new one.  I may go check it out by land tomorrow.

Paddling back towards our park we saw 3 bald eagles circling. They were amazing.  I asked another kayaker if he thought they were eagles too and he said there is a nest near his home on the lake and yes, they are eagles.  Man, fireflies and eagles!  This place is pretty awesome.

We heard on the radio that the space station was supposed to fly over tonight at 8:45pm.  So we went down to the lake to see if we could catch a glimpse of it.  We waited until almost 9:00pm and finally saw what we believe to be the space station.  It was moving pretty fast, but had no blinking lights.  So I am just gonna say that was it.  We saw the space station fly by!  It was really anticlimactic.  Not even as exciting as a falling star.  But, we can now say we saw it.

So until next time folks - stay safe!

Covid 19 Drifting

Friday, May 15, 2020

As we prepare to leave Port Arthur and continue our travels many things have changed. We anticipate things opening back up, but no longer have the desire to travel to the crowded northeast. At least not in the near future.  We discussed our options and decided we wanted to travel right through the middle of America where there is less population. I am sure we will be able to do the coasts as we had originally planned at a later date.  We have hopes of making it all the way to South Dakota on this trek and catch a glimpse of the amazing Miunt Rushmore. Maybe even stop in on family along the way.

We did everything but hook her to the truck yesterday.  All our toys loaded on the back. We are ready to get up early and pull out by noon.  Hahaha.  We don’t get up early, too much snuggling to be had!! We cant check into Conroe until noon and check out time here at the Port Arthur RV Resort is noon, so we are not in a hurry.

First stop, my grand babies! We will stay in Thousand Trails Lake Conroe for three weeks. I hope I can store up enough love by then to hold me on my travels.  The first weekend there will be terrible weather wise, but we can get some visiting in indoors, no problem!

We will keep our spot so you can track our trip through the link on the right.  We will probably be three weeks in each stop at least for the first couple of months hanging around Texas just in hopes that things start to normalize.  After that I have no idea.
