Our First Leg

Well we did it!  Got everything together and got on the road about 12:45 this afternoon.  Before we pulled away from our slip good, the tire minder starts alarming.  So we backed up and played with the trailer tire pressure.  I love the tire minder system, but it is very sensitive.  We checked everything and got back on the road.  Then BEEP BEEP BEEP again! Had to pull over again in Groves because now we have too much pressure in the tires.  It should be pretty leveled out now that the tires have warmed up and we are back on the road.

After a few minutes Dennis realized he may not have tightened that bolt holding all our toys onto the back of the RV.  He said I was gone in the truck and had all the tools, so I guess this is my fault. So needless to say we are about 15 miles from our point of origin and have already stopped three times.  We got this though!  We are very patient people. . . RETIRED!!!

NOW WHAT!  I will tell you what.  Low pressure indicator on the truck is now going off!  At least we have made it to Louisiana by this point. We pulled over near Lacassine and aired up the front driver side tire realizing we didn’t even check those before we left Port Arthur.  So got it aired up with Dennis’ new air compressor set up in the back of the truck.  That thing has sure come in handy on this trip.  What did we ever do without it.  Oh, yeah, we haven’t ever had all these problems before.  :/  Anyway, we get back on the road and in no time the low pressure indicator is going off again.  We pulled over in Jennings just passed the ‘truck stop.’  I called the truck stop to ask if they had any services there, maybe someone to plug a tire?  She said, ‘Oh, gosh, I don’t really know.  I could give you a phone number of a guy.’  I asked her, ‘So you are telling me that this truck stop really doesn’t have any services other than a Casino?’ and a said little voice came back at me and said, ‘Yes.’  So remember that when you travel in Louisiana, plenty of casinos, but not much road side service - at least not so far!  Anyway - the tire was really going flat so we changed it.  Again, the compressor came in handy, except that it seems like all of our (as in Dennis’) attention has been squarely on the RV because he doesn’t have a socket that will fit the truck tires.  But we pulled through.  I aired up the spare good while Dennis jacked up the truck and pulled off the tire.  By this time it is 4:00 pm.  It will be getting dark soon, and we are already shivering out here.  We are unfortunately on the shady side of the rig.  I am just so happy that the bad tire is not on the back or we would have had to drop the RV in order to change it.  I told Dennis, I am going to get some pressure sensors for the truck too and just add them to the tire minder system.  At least then you know which tire is giving you a problem and you may get some prior warning if it isn’t a blow out.  AND, we aren’t going to dilly dally around and leave at noon when we are changing locations anymore.  What the heck, it is almost 5:00 before we get back on the road.

Our first stop is at Poche’s in Breaux Bridge, La. and that is only a couple of hours from Port Arthur.  We pull in at 5:30 and check in. We took a two and a half hour trip and made five hours out of it.  The owner is checking us in and he said he will be cooking Gumbo in the clubhouse on Sunday where he has just installed a huge TV and we are invited. All we have to to do is bring our chairs and our own beverages.  Things are looking up for us!!!  Free gumbo and a huge screen to watch the game.  AWESOME.

Now we go set up in the dark. Yeah!!! I don’t like doing it that way.  We get to our slip and there is truck parked in it.  I have to ask around to find the owner.  He moved without too much trouble.  He was a bit gruff, but he is a yankee, sooooo.   All the spots here are surrounding little ponds.  Looks like they may raise crawfish here too.  But the funny thing is, the road is right on the edge of the pond and the slip is not as long as we are used to.  The other guy next door pulled his car up closer too his Class C so we could encroach on his slip to back into ours.  It took about three stabs at it before we were comfortable with the angle.  These are concrete pads too.  So that is real nice.  However, when we put the level to it we had to raise the drivers side by a couple of inches.  We unhooked the truck finally around 6:30.  Dennis starts hooking everything up outside and I start bringing the RV down to level end to end.  Well, if I want it level we will need to hook the truck back up to the RV and adjust the leveling blocks on the front.  By this time I said who cares about a quarter bubble!!! I am tired.  If I decide I can't handle it we will fix it later in the week.  So I start putting the inside together and go back out to check on Dennis.  All of the hookups are towards the back of the RV.  He has the power and water going but we don’t have enough hose to dump the grey and black water tanks.  It could be worse, we don’t leave those open anyway.  We will take a trip to Wally World tomorrow and fix that problem.  We will need another 20 feet (or two tens) to reach. We haven’t seen this before, but we probably will on the road, so no worries.

Finally, I am glad I had the foresight to go by For the Love of Foods and pick up lunch and dinner before we left.  We heated up our dinner and drank a couple glasses of vino.  Ahhhh.  Relaxing, we felt our soreness in our backs and knees.  Well, Greg, looks like land cruising isn’t for sissies either.

We jumped in the shower and were out by 11:00!  Life is good.

Now then, I have been having trouble saving the spot tracker to the blog.  In comes Dennis this morning and I think he got it!  But just in case, here is a link you can save:  https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=216585e345ccf695bc&hoursPast=0&showAll=yes
